I agree GRRM uses (and overuses) some stock fantasy novel expressions. I don't know if he's the first to use "half a hundred" but he's used it at least twice a hundred times. "Dark wings, dark words" is also very irritating. I'm not sure, but I think a man should probably consult a woman any time he's going to write anything related to "moon blood." As much as I've enjoyed his books (at least, the first three, they go downhill after that) part of what made them refreshing in the beginning has itself become hackneyed - his killing off important and liked characters. At first, as I said, it was refreshing. Now it's as predictable as the novels where you know which characters will live. Also, I wonder how long Sansa can avoid doing the nasty?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
